Neymar has divided opinion throughout his career but there’s no doubt the Brazilian forward is one of the world’s most entertaining and skillful footballers. On his day, Paris Saint-Germain’s No. 10 is unplayable.Neymar is the most expensive footballer in history, following his record-breaking £198 million move from Barcelona in 2017, and recently signed the largest individual sponsorship contract in sport. The 28-year-old sprang a surprise earlier this month by ending his close partnership with Nike.Neymar has been tied to the American sportswear giant since the age of 13 and still had two years left to run on an 11-year deal. However, Neymar is now contracted to Puma after receiving a staggering offer from the German brand. This is according to The Daily Mail, who say Neymar’s deal with Puma is worth an astronomical £23 million a year.

All Neymar has to do for that eye-watering sum of money is wear Puma boots, lifestyle wear and training gear.

“I grew up watching videos of great football legends such as Pele, Cruyff, Matthaus, Eusebio and Maradona,” Neymar, insisting Puma’s history was also important in his decision to split from Nike, commented.

“I wish to bring back the legacy that those athletes created on the pitch.”

The length of Neymar’s deal with Puma is currently unclear but we do know that the Brazil international’s new sponsorship contract dwarfs both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi’s.

Messi currently earns £18 million a year from his partnership with Adidas.

Still extremely good money, but now £5 million less than what Puma are paying Neymar.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, surprisingly earns even less from his deal with Nike.

The Portuguese superstar currently pockets £15 million a year - a hefty £8 million less than Neymar’s latest contract.

Puma will now be hoping that Neymar can inspire PSG to Champions League glory for the first time this season.
