Everton manager David Moyes has told Liverpool they can forget about signing Leighton Baines.
The 26-year-old England international is an alleged target for a number of clubs after enjoying a superb season at Goodison Park.
Liverpool, Arsenal and Bayern Munich have all been linked with the defender in recent months, but Moyes maintains Baines will not be sold – especially not to their Merseyside rivals.
"I can't see it. It's not for me that one and I think Liverpool know that as well,” Moyes told the Liverpool Echo.
"Nobody will leave the club unless I give it the go-ahead and that won't change.
"We have signed Leighton on a five-year deal. I don't want to sell him and Everton don't sell cheap.
"The chairman looks after the players and gives them what he can. So Leighton's not for sale - and they know that as well."
Along with £10 million-rated Baines, Liverpool are also said to be chasing Newcastle’s Jose Enrique in their pursuit of a left-back of proven quality.
