Ferguson ‘faces off’ with EPL clubs over Italian star

Manchester United have sent Sir Alex Ferguson’s brother to scout Espanyol star Dani Osvaldo, despite growing interest from a host of Barclays Premier League clubs including Tottenham, Everton and Fulham.

According to Spanish site, David Moyes, Mark Hughes and Martin Ferguson were all in attendance to watch the Espanyol forward take on Athletic Bilbao last night, effectively facing off as Osvaldo starred for his side, scoring in the 2-1 victory.

Manchester United had previously been linked to the 25 year old, and Ferguson’s attendance at the Espanyol game will no doubt reflect Manchester United manager Sir Alex’s personal interest in the star.

Osvaldo, who is a joint Argentinian and Italian citizen, but chose to pledge his allegiance to Italy, has become a regular in the Espanyol starting line up, scoring 11 goals in 20 appearances.

Manchester United reportedly have a big budget to use this summer, and the star won’t go for a small price, with the growing competition between Barclays Premier League clubs for his signature.
