Blackburn Rovers have made a bid for reported Arsenal target Papiss Demba Cisse, Freiburg have confirmed.
The 25-year-old striker has been in sensational form this season - notching 22 goals in only 30 Bundesliga games - and is now unsurprisingly a target for a number of clubs in England and on the continent.
Arsenal have been frequently linked with the Frenchman, but Rovers appear to have made the first move in pursuit of his signature.
Freiburg sporting director Dirk Dufner said: "I can confirm that Blackburn have made us an offer."
Bild reported last week that the German side were ready to cash in on their prized asset, and have been touting Cisse around to potential suitors, with a valuation of around £13 million on his head.
Whether or not Blackburn were able to meet the demands of Freiburg remains to be seen, and Arsenal are thought to be monitoring the situation with great interest.
And Cisse, it has been claimed, would be open to a move to Arsenal should the opportunity present itself.
"There’s no mistaking he’s very happy at Freiburg and he’s under contract until 2014, but Arsenal certainly interests him," a source close to Cisse previously told Goal.com.
"Freiburg are a great but small club so it's very likely he will go in the summer. And Cisse is worthy of Champions League football, that is what he's aiming for."
