Newcastle left back Jose Enrique has told reporters he is happy to stay at the Toon, but the Liverpool target hinted at a possible move in the summer by telling the BBC Late Kick Off he’d consider heading to another English club.
"I'm just concentrating on playing for Newcastle," Enrique said.
"If I have to continue here [at Newcastle], I'm happy. If I have to go to another club, I'm happy in England.
"If I have to go to another league, I'm happy.
"I just want to play football - it's my life and it's best for me."
Contract talks have reportedly stalled with Enrique at Newcastle, even though Alan Pardew said he was keen on keeping the Spaniard. But Enrique is keeping quiet on any details of talks that have taken place, as clubs pursue the star for a reported £15 million.
"We haven't spoken about contracts yet - I don't want to say more about that,” Enrique said.
"I'm very happy here. I know there are a few difficult things at Newcastle, but we the players don't have to think about that.”
Recently Liverpool legend Phil Thompson told a Norwegian TV station that a deal for Enrique to move to Liverpool had already been agreed to.
The close friend of Kenny Dalglish said: “From what I've heard, yes the deal has been done and he will come to Liverpool,” Thompson told Norwegian station TV2.
“It'll be interesting because he's done very well. He had a difficult first season coming into the Premier League a couple of years ago but he really understands the game now."
While Pardew insisted no such deal had been decided, speculation continues to mount that Enrique will head to Liverpool in the summer.
