Essien: We have to beat United

Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien says The Blues have to beat Manchester United this weekend if they want to claim the Barclays Premier League.

The top two meet at Old Trafford on Sunday with United three points clear of the Stamford Bridge club, with three games of the season left.

Essien's side can top the table if they beat United this weekend, and the Ghanaian is adamant his side must take advantage.

"We have hit a good run of form lately and have managed to haul ourselves back into the title race," he said.

"We have to beat Manchester United at Old Trafford this weekend to ensure we are in the driving seat and I can assure you we are up for it.

"The team is playing well and I have no doubt we will give it everything we have to beat Man United."

Since drawing with Fulham in Feburary, Chelsea have clawed back United's 12-point lead to just three points ahead of the summit meeting at Old Trafford on Sunday, and despite crashing out to the league leaders in the Champions League earlier this season, they were the last side to beat United at Old Trafford, last April.
