Manchester City are vying with Manchester United for the signing of Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Douglas Costa, report skysports.com.
The 20-year-old Brazilian has been heavily linked with a move to the 18-time league champions and was even a guest of the club during their meeting with Bolton Wanderers in March.
But according to Costa's agent, Cesar Bottega, City are planning to hijack United's bid for the player.
"I have spoken a few times with Manchester City," he said.
"They have shown interest in the player and are now considering whether to enter into a negotiation or not.
"I am planning a trip to Europe in a fortnight, but if something were to change I'm ready to leave earlier."
City and United, who contested the first FA Cup semi-final at Wembley two weeks ago, are also tracking the progress of Javier Pastore, the highly rated Palermo forward.
Both City and United are expected to be able to use Champions League football as bait for Costa, who has stared with Donetsk in the competition this season.
