Manchester United representatives have reportedly flown to Portugal today in order to complete a deal for Sporting Lisbon goalkeeper Rui Patricio.

According to The Sun, top negotiators from the Barclays Premier League leaders are in Lisbon this afternoon with a view to coming back to England having agreed a fee for the £12 million-rated shot-stopper.

The 23-year-old is understood to have been recommended to United by Carlos Queiroz - the former no.2 of Sir Alex Ferguson - who has been keeping a close eye on his compatriot for a number of seasons.

Sporting, however, are reportedly concerned that United are using them in a bid to hasten Atletico Madrid into compromising over David De Gea - the top target for the Old Trafford club.

United have been linked with a long line of potential replacements for Edwin Van der Sar, who will leave Old Trafford at the end of the season.

Schalke gloveman Manuel Neuer had initially installed as the favourite to succeed the 40-year-old Dutchman, while Ajax first-choice Stekelenburg has also been on the United radar.
