Highly-rated Lens youngster Raphael Varane has revealed Manchester United have been in contact with his employers over a proposed move.
The 18-year-old defender has seemingly been gathering admirers by the game this season as he strives to help Lens retain their status in Ligue 1.
Despite the lowly placing of his club, Varane has stood out as a player of real quality and one that possesses a temperament beyond his tender years.
The teenager has been linked with a summer switch to Old Trafford for a number of months and now Varane says that United have already made contact.
"I have no preference between going abroad, staying in Ligue 1 or staying here," Varane told L'Equipe.
"There's been contact between certain clubs and Lens. Manchester United are among them.
"I know that I'm being followed but, for the time being, I've made no decision. I've not even discussed this with the president (Gervais Martel) yet."
Along with United, Liverpool are also said to be chasing Varane's signature, but Old Trafford reportedly remains his preferred destination, should he be sold.
