Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp conceded winger Gareth Bale's injury in a 1-1 draw with Blackpool looked bad but was not sure of the severity of the injury.

The Wales international went down clutching his left ankle in the 62nd minute after being sandwiched by Keith Southern and Charlie Adam, before subsequently being stretchered off. The injury looked serious and Bale was seen leaving White Hart Lane with a protective boot on his left ankle.

The club have said Bale will have the injury scanned on Monday and Redknapp is hoping for the best, saying: "He has done his ankle, it looks quite bad."

He added: "We are not sure whether he has done his ligament or something. They are checking up on him but it is quite swollen.

"It looked a bad challenge, to be fair. But that is how it goes.

He added: "They will scan him for sure and see how it is. It might not be so bad. He might have done his ligament, it may just be a twist. I don't know, we'll have to wait and see."

Blackpool manager Ian Holloway defended Adam for the role he played in Bale's departure from the game, insisting that the Scot, who almost joined Spurs in January, would never have intentionally hurt the star.

The former QPR manager also hit at out former England manager Kevin Keegan who, in his role as ESPN pundit commenting on the match, claimed that the midfielder looked to have meant to injure Bale.

"He (Adam) almost came here so why would he want to hurt anybody?" Holloway said.

"He hasn't got it in him. At this level, the game is so quick. Charlie tried to get there and it was genuine so I'm disappointed that Kevin says that. He is entitled to his own opinion but I totally disagree with it."
