Turner: We're in fine form

Shrewsbury boss Graham Turner is confident his side can earn promotion via the play-offs following their 3-0 win over Oxford.

The Shrews needed to better Wycombe's result against Southend but the Chairboys' 3-1 win left the Shrews facing a play-off date with Torquay.

"We had probably our worst performance of the season down there (Plainmoor) but we have won seven of our last nine games and kept a clean sheet in five of them," said Turner. "We are in fine form and we will go into the play-offs with optimism."

Turner added: "We have 79 points and six weeks ago I would have expected that to be good enough to go up with a number of teams in contention but it wasn't to be and now we must move on and prepare for the play-offs."

Oxford manager Chris Wilder felt the scoreline was a little harsh on his side.

"We more than held our own up until the first goal but then we missed the most glorious chance a footballer could wish for to equalise and from there Shrewsbury took their chances," he said.

"It was a difficult afternoon for Shrewsbury with what was at stake but it was the last game of the season, we wanted to win so it was a real match and I`m a bit disappointed to be honest.

"The last 20 minutes probably summed up our season. We were well in the game and holding our own until then but the opposition broke away and took their chances.

"We will now do the necessary work through the summer and I won`t be hanging about. We will be bringing in players at the top, so I`ve told all my players that they need to be more consistent."
