Sport.co.uk is reporting that along with speculation surrounding Stuart Downing making a move to Liverpool in the summer, fellow Aston Villa teammate Ashley Young is considering doing the same thing.

Young will be out of contract with Villa in June 2012, and Villa will need to either sign the star this summer or it will in their best interests to sell and recoup money to spend on a replacement.

Liverpool have long been connected with the 25-year-old, and Young is reportedly ready to make a move to a club that can offer him Champions League football.

While Liverpool only look set to secure Europa League qualification this season, they can offer a plan for future success, and a huge budget for the summer transfer period. This will no doubt tempt Young to make a move to Merseyside, as the England winger looks to stake his claim in the international side.

Liverpool may also be able to offer a more comfortable environment than first thought for the star, should teammate Downing make a move to the Kop in the summer as well.

But the Anfield club face tough competition from other English clubs for Young’s signature, with Manchester United and Tottenham circling.
