Arsenal and Liverpool have both been scuppered in their search for defensive cover with news that both Philippe Mexes and Taye Taiwo have signed for AC Milan.
The Premier League pair were rumoured to be leading the race for the free transfer defenders, but the Italian giants have secured their signatures before the end of the season.
Milan raped up the Serie A title this weekend, and coach Massimilano Allegri is already planning for next season, and said the Ligue 1 have will join the champions, rather than Arsenal or Liverpool.
"In defence, Milan are sorted. We have taken Mexes and Taiwo," Allegri said.
The news comes as a blow to Arsenal and Liverpool, who were looking to tempt either of the pair to the club to help drive down costs in an inflated transfer market.
However both sides will now turn their attention to Gary Cahill and Phil Jones as the duo plan an assault on the Barclays Premier League title.
While Arsenal saw their title challenge fade after a defeat to Stoke City, Liverpool still have a lot to play for with a Europa League spot still up for grabs.
