Arsenal have been put on red-alert with the news that transfer target Jan Vertonghen is keen on a move to England, reports the Sun.
The Belgian defender has been much coveted since breaking into the Ajax first-team in 2005, and now a regular at international level, has been rumoured with a move away.
And with Arsenal searching for some defensive cover, Vertonghen has issued a 'come and get me' plea.
"I have something with England — especially with the nostalgic atmosphere around the football," he said.
"If I could make the step then I would prefer to play in a footballing team but I won't go to a club where I am given the task to play the long ball.
"It's utopian to think players can be kept in Holland until they are 27. It is all fantastic stories from the guys who play in a foreign league.
"I hear them from Luis Suarez but also from six or seven players from the Belgian national team."
Defensive problems have undermined Arsenal's title challenge this season, while a long term injury to Thomas Vermaelen has also given manager Arsene Wenger a selection headache at the back.
As well as Vertonghen, Arsenal have been linked with Gary Cahill and Leighton Baines.
