Newcastle manager Alan Pardew says that fans will be excited by the new additions to the side in the summer transfer period.

"We need to bring players in Newcastle fans love that can get you out of your seat," Pardew told BBC Newcastle.

"We need one or two of them on top of what we've got and then we can go forward and be really competitive."

With injured Hatem Ben Arfa making his return after breaking his leg, and Alan Smith, Leon Best and Steven Taylor also making comebacks, the side will be fresh and raring to better their mid table finish in the Barclays Premier League table next season.

Newcastle have endured some difficult times this season, including a change in manager under controversial circumstances, and the £35 million sale of striker and fan favourite Andy Carroll.

While at one stage the Toon looked to be getting sucked into the huge relegation battle at the bottom of the table, the side is now safe with 44 points and sitting 11th.

Pardew has said that despite being guaranteed safety, Newcastle will not be resting on their laurels for their final matches.

“Making sure we don’t coast for the rest of the season is something I've got to focus on,” Pardew told the Journal.

“We have a professional respect that we handle ourselves very well in these remaining games.

“The players have been absolutely brilliant and we want to finish in the top 10. We want to finish the season right. For us it's about finishing strongly and making a point.”
