Liverpool can profit from City backlash

Published Add your comment

Liverpool produced a stunning Monday night display at Fulham to move fifth in the Barclays Premier League.

A hat-trick from Maxi Rodriguez along with goals from man-of-the-match Luis Suarez and Dutchman Dirk Kuyt secured a 5-2 victory for the Reds, who stepped into the final Europa League spot at the expense of Spurs.

Harry Redknapp's side travel to the City of Manchester Stadium tonight to face Roberto Mancini's outfit knowing only victory keeps their faint Champions League hopes alive, while a fixture against Kenny Dalglish's side at the weekend will have further significance should they fail to win tonight.

"We want to win Tuesday, but it's important that we get fourth position and only this," said Mancini.

Elsewhere, and Manchester United skipper Nemanja Vidic has urged his teammates to remain focused ahead of this weekend's clash against Blackburn. Victory over Chelsea at the weekend meant the Red Devils all-but assured the title, but the Serbian has warned colleagues that the job needs to be finished.

Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna has warned the Gunners that they will need to find some 'fight' if they are to claim the title next season, while Arsene Wenger insists the club have already got summer transfer plans in place.
