Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich wants to sign Valencia winger Juan Mata, despite rumours over the future of manager Carlo Ancelotti.
Failure to make a genuine title challenge this season has led to rumours surrounding Ancelotti's future at the club, with the Italian expected to be replaced by Guus Hiddink.
But despite the talk, the Russian owner is keen to tie up a deal for the Spaniard, whoever the manager at Chelsea is.
Mata is rated as one of the best wingers in Europe and was linked with a move to Liverpool and Arsenal, but Chelsea are looking to steal a march on their Premier League rivals.
As well as the 23-year-old, Chelsea have been linked with moves for Wesley Sneijder and Kaka.
