Liverpool are reportedly winning the race to sign Aston Villa winger Ashley Young.
The 25-year-old is also allegedly being pursued by Manchester United, but it appears the Barclays Premier League leaders may lose out to their bitter north west rivals.
According to The Guardian, Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group are 'increasingly confident' that they will follow the permanent signing of Kenny Dalglish as manager with a £15 million deal for Young.
Young's future has been the subject of constant speculation over the last few months, with the former Watford man delaying any contract discussions with Villa until the summer.
Liverpool are understood to have closely been monitoring his situation and, with Young's current deal at Villa Park set to expire next year, the Reds are ready to test the resolve of the Midlands club.
Liverpool are known to be keen to bring more potent wide options to Anfield during the transfer window, and director of football Damien Comolli has previously been outed as a fan of Young.
