Arsenal poised for 'crocked' international goalkeeper approach

Anderlecht goalkeeper Silvio Proto has emerged as a summer transfer target for Arsenal according to the Daily Mirror.

The 27-year-old Belgian international stopper has been in impressive form this season, attracting the attention of a number of potential suitors.

With Gunners boss Arsene Wenger having lost faith in Manuel Almunia, and short-term signing Jens Lehmann set to hang up his gloves once and for all.

Arsenal will be left short in goalkeeping cover, with Lukasz Fabianski and Wojciech Szczesny the only other recognised senior professionals on the books at the Emirates Stadium.

Newcastle United have also reportedly been keeping tabs on Proto, so a summer move to the Barclays Premier League looks increasingly likely.

However, it is believed that the player would favour a move to Arsenal who can offer Proto the chance of playing Champions League football.

With Anderlecht boasting the meanest defensive record in the Belgian first division, Proto is held in high regard by both Arsenal and Newcastle.

But a summer move to England may have been put in jeopardy after Proto broke his foot in last weekend's league encounter, ruling him out for at least two months.
