Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly turned his attentions to 24-year-old Juventus playmaker Claudio Marchisio, despite the Italian making his intentions to stay with the Old Lady clear.
Italian publication Tuttosport has claimed that Ferguson is searching for a replacement for Owen Hargreaves, who has suffered long injury spells in the Manchester United squad.
Marchisio recently told reporters on the transfer speculation: "It's nice because they [Manchester United] are a great team.
"But I am a Juve player and I can't think of anything better than to finish the season wearing this jersey.
"I hope to continue here for as long as possible."
Marchisio has starred for the Serie A this season, and has been compared to Italian great Marco Tardelli for his ruthless tackles and technical ability. The playmaker has also been dubbed by fans Il Principino (The Little Prince).
But while the star has said he is happy at Juventus, talks on a new contract have continued to stall, putting Manchester United on alert that the youngster may be ready to move to England.
