Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard has admitted he's delighted that Kenny Dalglish has penned a long-term contract at the club.
The Scot has helped guide the Reds into a European place since his arrival at Anfield in January, but was yet to commit to an extended contract until Thursday.
Fenway Sports Group finally persuaded 'King Kenny' to sign a three-year deal with the Merseysiders, and captain Gerrard believes it will allow the club to look forward towards a bright future.
"It is fantastic news and the news everyone connected with the club has been waiting for," said the Liverpool captain.
"Kenny has lifted the place, the supporters, the players and everyone connected with the club and now we can all look forward to a bright future. Before he came in everyone knew it was a difficult time as results were not going well, but sometimes all you need is a change.
"The last six months has been a lot more positive."
Gerrard stressed that the Liverpool boss is a popular figure amongst the players at the club, and that his legendary status commands respect from all involved with the Reds.
With his appointment comes greater expectation though, and the Liverpool skipper knows that the side will need to match their excellent form when the new season begins.
"He is very popular with the players and I think he is a popular guy in general. Everyone knows about his knowledge, his experience and what he has done in the game," Gerrard continued.
"With Kenny signing and a few more signings, I am sure expectations will go through the roof but we just need to continue what we have been doing over the last six months."
