Werder Bremen playmaker Marko Marin has claimed that Liverpool are pursuing him.

The 22-year-old - dubbed the 'German Messi' in the tabloids - is attracting plenty of hype after a number of dazzling displays in the Bundesliga.

Liverpool have been linked with Marin for a number of months and now, according to the player himself, the Anfield club are monitoring his progress.

"Yes, I am aware of it [the interest from Liverpool]," Marin told Bild. "However I am just keeping my focus on Werder Bremen.

"We had a very difficult time this season and it was a struggle, of course, I still like being at Werder Bremen. I suppose we are out to play a better campaign next term."

A versatile midfielder, able to operate either out wide or through the middle, Marin is one of the most exciting talents in Germany - and a deal would represent quite a coup for Liverpool.

His ability to beat players is one of his noticeable traits, while he also weighs in with his fair share of assists.

One thing Marin could add to his armoury, however, is greater goalscoring prowess, with a return of five strikes in 40 appearances this season hardly anything to write home about.

However, the Germany international will seemingly be the target for several clubs during the transfer window, with Tottenham reportedly vying Liverpool for his signature.
