Wayne Rooney stroked home a penalty 17 minutes from time to give Manchester United a 1-1 draw with Blackburn that confirmed them as Barclays Premier League champions for a record 19th time.

Trailing to Brett Emerton's first-half opener, it seemed United would be made to wait for the point required to win the Premier League.

But after Paul Robinson had brought down Javier Hernandez, Rooney kept his cool to knock Liverpool off their perch, as Sir Alex Ferguson promised all those years ago.
