Nolberto Solano is aiming for promotion to the Championship next season after completing his sensational move to Hartlepool.
The former Newcastle favourite turned down a contract with Hull to move to Pools and wants to take them up.
"This is an exciting time for Hartlepool and I was attracted by the ambition of the club," Solano said.
"It's a fantastic club with a very passionate support, similar to Newcastle fans.
"We have to believe next season that we can challenge higher up the table towards the play-offs and promotion.
"This is a tough league, like the Championship, but why can't we get promoted next season?"
He added: "I have come here to be successful and I know Mick (Wadsworth) thinks we can have a very good year - I can help the club achieve that."
