Highly-rated Lens youngster Raphael Varane is on the verge of joining Manchester United, it has been claimed.
According to talkSPORT, the Barclays Premier League champions are set to 'finalise a deal' with the French club within the next week or two.
Lens had hoped to keep hold of the 18-year-old defender but it has become impossible after they were relegated from Ligue 1. It would now appear that United will take advantage of Lens' position and, according to L'Equipe, the Old Trafford club are already negotiating with the player.
Varane had previously stated that he was happy to continue his progression with his current employers, despite knowing about the interest from United.
"I have no preference between going abroad, staying in Ligue 1 or staying here," Varane told L'Equipe.
"There's been contact between certain clubs and Lens. Manchester United are among them."
However, it seems as though he will be Sir Alex Ferguson's first signing of the summer, with a deal expected to be concluded shortly after the Champions League final on May 28.
