Preston have been handed a major boost as they prepare for life in League One after midfielder Barry Nicholson signed a new two-year contract.
The 32-year-old Scot scored four goals in 23 appearances during the 2010/11 season following a successful comeback from two long-term injuries. Capped three times by Scotland, Nicholson came through the youth ranks at Rangers before moving on to Dunfermline and Aberdeen prior to joining Preston in June 2008 under the Bosman ruling.
"I'm absolutely delighted to be signing a new contract at Preston North End," said Nicholson.
"Like everyone else, I was disappointed we got relegated and I think there were many reasons for that, such as our terrible injury run and the loss of so many first-team players in mid-season.
"It meant the team took some time to settle but we really got some rhythm going towards the end of the season, only to run out of time."
