Tottenham are reportedly considering a summer approach for Stoke City captain Ryan Shawcross.
According to Metro, the north London club are keen on the 23-year-old centre-back as they look to bolster their defence in time for the new campaign.
Metro also suggests that Spurs are willing to offer wantaway Sebastien Bassong as part of the deal in order to bring Shawcross to White Hart Lane.
Bassong revealed yesterday that he is keen to secure a move away from Tottenham after being displaced in the team by summer acquisition William Gallas.
"I feel that I have gone backwards, like I have gone from heaven to hell," said the 24-year-old.
"I am a guy who simply has to play. I would never just sit there and take the money.
"I am reaching an age where, if I don't play week in, week out, and if I don't feel real trust in me, then I can't stay, no matter which club it is."
Shawcross is thought to have been identified by Harry Redknapp as a player with the potential to aid Spurs in their quest for Champions League football next season.
