Barnsley have confirmed an approach from npower Championship rivals Derby for skipper Jason Shackell.
The Rams have made a reported bid of £700,000 for the 27-year-old central defender, but Barnsley are in no position to do business while they search for a new manager following the departure of Mark Robins from Oakwell.
A Barnsley spokesman said: "We can confirm we have received an approach from Derby for our captain Jason Shackell, but we will not be making further comment until we have appointed our new manager."
Barnsley beat off competition from several clubs to sign Shackell for an undisclosed fee from Wolves last summer after the defender had spent the previous season on loan at Doncaster.
He has been a virtual ever-present for the Tykes this season, making 46 appearances and scoring three goals.
Meanwhile, Barnsley are still in talks with Rochdale manager Keith Hill regarding the vacancy at Oakwell having been given permission to speak to him on Thursday. However, the Tykes have confirmed that Hill, who steered Dale to their first promotion since 1969 last season, is only one of several candidates on their shortlist.
