Highly rated Celtic defender Emilio Izaguirre is a summer transfer target for Liverpool according to the Metro.
The 25-year-old Honduran international has capped a wonderful debut season in Scotland, drawing many plaudits from a number of scintillating performances this term.
Izaguirre was thought to have been a transfer target for Manchester United, but it is now Liverpool who have emerged as the favourites to entice him away from Celtic Park in June.
Hoops boss Neil Lennon is keen to keep his star players at Celtic, in order to mount a stronger challenge for the SPL title with the Bhoys next season.
"We're building a team here and it might be difficult to replace these players," he said.
"I would be surprised if we need to sell in the summer. I haven't sat down with Peter (Lawwell) or anyone from the Celtic board on that aspect of things - but any offers that do come in will be treated with hostility."
However, if interest from Reds boss Kenny Dalglish is to be believed, then a summer switch to Anfield could prove too good an opportunity to turn down.
Izaguirre was named the SPL players' player of the year, proof that he is held in high regard in Scotland, and with Liverpool’s left-back area in need of strengthening, it is perhaps obvious that he has been linked with a move to Anfield.
And when you consider Dalglish's former ties to Celtic, it will be interesting to see how this story develops, and whether or not Izaguirre will follow in 'King' Kenny's footsteps 34years after he himself made the move from Celtic when Bob Paisley paid a then British transfer record £440,000 to bring him to Liverpool.
