Chelsea legend tips Redknapp for manager

Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola believes Harry Redknapp would be a great manager at Stamford Bridge, with the Tottenham manager now odds-on favourites to take over one of the hardest jobs in football.

“Harry is one of those managers that has the skills to do well everywhere,” Zola told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show.

“I don’t know if Harry Redknapp is type of manager Chelsea is looking for but with his quality nobody can doubt him."

Redknapp did seem keen on taking over as England manager when Fabio Capello’s contract runs out after the European Championships. But after Ancelotti’s shock sacking last week, Redknapp has emerged as surprise favourite for the job, with bookies currently rating him at evens to take over as Chelsea boss.

Other front runners at William Hill include Guus Hiddink and 9/2 and Mark Hughes at 12/1.

Meanwhile, Zola believes Ancelotti was harshly treated. “I feel Ancelotti did a good job for Chelsea and like many fans we are sorry for what happened to him,” Zola said.

“I think Ancelotti really likes London and he likes the way football is played over here. That doesn’t surprise me, because after Italy if you come here you really enjoy the culture.”
