Johnson will lead us to victory - Cardoza

Gary Johnson is the man to assemble a quality squad which will lead Northampton to the npower Championship, according to club chairman David Cardoza.

The former Bristol City boss was appointed in March and, after steering the club away from relegation from the Football League, Cardoza is backing his man to push ahead after already bringing back striker Adebayo Akinfenwa.

"We had a tough time towards the end of last season but we've got a manager at the club who I feel can take us higher than League One, I genuinely believe that," Cardoza told the Northampton Chronicle and Echo.

"The thought of dropping out of the Football League was frightening - you just have to read what Lincoln are going through at the moment and we'd be no different.

"That's never going to happen again and we've learned a good lesson from it. We're moving on, things with the development seem to be moving on and we're going to get an awesome team together.

"It's a case of being onwards and upwards from here but last season was a very important lesson for us as a football club."
