Newcastle United are expected to confirm the signing of France midfielder Yohan Cabaye this week.
The 25-year-old, who won the league and cup double with Lille this season, has made two appearances for his country.
Cabaye informed team-mates and manager Rudi Garcia of his plans this season before the club's victory over Rennes.
Garcia said: "Yohan told us yesterday – first me, then the whole group before the game – that he has chosen to join Newcastle. It is a choice that I respect, although I wish he continued the adventure with us."
Cabaye is, according to the Guardian, expected to cost £4.3 million, the player's release clause at Lille.
The midfielder made his international debut last August against Norway.
