Middlesbrough manager Tony Mowbray is determined to keep striker Marvin Emnes and wants to offer him a new contract.

The 23-year-old Dutchman's current deal expires next summer and he has recently been linked with a move to Premier League new boys Swansea.

But Mowbray told the club's official website: "I would like to extend Marvin's contract and keep him here longer-term."

He added: "It's something we are looking at and that I'd like us to try to do.

"I like Marvin as a player. I think he is technically very good and he gives opposing defenders a lot of problems in this league.

"We will be looking to work on Marvin to encourage him to score more goals because he is definitely capable of doing so."
