Blackburn star Phil Jones has been warned by Steve Kean not to join a top four club next season.
Jones is a big target for Liverpool and Arsenal, with Liverpool in particular reportedly a front runner to secure the star’s signature.
But Kean has issued a warning to the England Under-21 from joining big clubs, saying the starlet will not get the game time he needs to fulfill his potential.
“I don’t know if Phil would go straight into the team at a Champions League club," Kean said.
"And he wants to play. He wants to be a central defender - where he is looking fantastic.
“He is also a [Blackburn] supporter and it’s great for the fans to see one of their own playing. He was outstanding at the end of the season.”
Kean hinted that clubs have been speaking to him about securing Jones’ signature, and with Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish reportedly taking a liking to the youngster, Kean admits to being prepared for things to heat up over summer.
“You always brace yourself for bids - we have had offers before for him and I am sure there will be solid ones in again. He will move on some time, but I can see him being captain here first.”
