Liverpool fight English trio for winger target

Wigan winger Charles N’Zogbia looks set to make a move for Liverpool, with French newspaper L’Equipe also listing Tottenham, Everton and Sunderland as potential candidates to land the 24-year-old.

N’Zogbia has long been connected with Liverpool, and with all four clubs reportedly chasing the star, Liverpool looks to be the most likely to offer Champions League football, with Kenny Dalglish mapping out a long term plan to challenge for trophies.

"Charles has improved every year, scored ten goals a season and taken on more responsibility by being captain," Wigan manager Roberto Martinez recently said.

"He knows I wouldn't stop his career progressing. But he also knows I wouldn't like him to go anywhere for the money as he's still 24.

"There are certain players who can compete in the Champions League and you can't stop those players. As well as Charles, there's a few who fall into that category.”

After becoming permanent manager for Liverpool last month, a large transfer budget has reportedly been given to Dalglish by the Merseyside club owners to spend, putting N’Zogbia well within the manager's radar.

And with the Frenchman reportedly insisting on staying in the Barclays Premier League, a move to Liverpool could be the perfect match for both parties.
