Keith Southern has backed Billy Clarke to make a telling impression at Blackpool next season.
The Irishman missed the entire Barclays Premier League campaign, returning to first team training too late to be involved in any senior matches as the club failed in their efforts to beat the drop.
However, Southern is confident Clarke can follow in his own footsteps and recover from a serious injury, helping the side in their fight to gain promotion from the Npower Championship next term.
"It was such a shame for Bill last season, inside the first minute of pre-season he goes up for a header and suffers a knee injury and didn't kick a ball all season. It's unbelievable really for a young lad to go through what he has done but he'll be back and he could be like a new signing in many ways because he's got so much quality to offer," stated the Blackpool midfielder.
"I think he offers us a bit of balance as well because he's got a great left foot so hopefully next year is a really big one for him."
Southern was also quick to pick out a number of players who impressed last season, and could be integral to the Bloomfield Road outfits efforts to return to the top flight.
"I think Craig Cathcart was superb (against Wigan) and he has been a superb bit of business in pinching him from Man United. I know he lost his place towards the end of the season but his time will come again - he's a quality centre-half.
"I think the same has to be said of Jason Puncheon as well, he offered us something different when he came in January, he's got great movement, good feet and he scored a few goals in a short space of time."
