Manchester United keeper target Manuel Neuer has signed with Bayern Munich, with the 25-year-old choosing to stay in Germany rather than heading for the English giants.
“I am really looking forward to this huge and exciting challenge at Bayern,” Neuer said.
“Many of my international team-mates will be my team-mates in Munich. Therefore I won't be going into a new environment and will certainly settle in quickly.”
The German appears to have chosen to stay closer to home, after being a favourite to secure a deal as Edwin van der Sar’s replacement at Manchester United in the summer.
Neuer looked set for the coveted United keeper position after he played so well against the side in the Champions League, and while Neuer’s side Schalke lost 6-1 over the two legs, Sir Alex Ferguson credited Neuer for being the best keeper to play against Manchester United he had seen.
While the news of Neuer signing to Bayern will no doubt be a blow to the United camp, Ferguson has other stopper targets, including Athletico Madrid’s David De Gea and Ajax’s Maarten Stekelenburg.
