Notts County manager Martin Allen says transfer target Marlon Harewood is enthusiastic towards a potential move to Meadow Lane.

Former Nottingham Forest forward Harewood, 31, is a free agent after being released by Blackpool at the end of last season. Allen admits there will be plenty of competition from higher divisions for Harewood's signature but insists County have a chance of landing their man after offering him a two-year deal.

"We have had talks and Marlon is a great lad," said Allen.

"He was really enthusiastic about what we are trying to achieve here but obviously there will be other offers. But we have got a chance, it's not a dead deal.

"We have let 14 players go and that has released the funds we need."
