Director Bill Phillips has confirmed Torquay are under pressure to appoint a replacement for Paul Buckle, but have a number of interesting applicants.

Buckle left Plainmoor on Monday to take the reins at Bristol Rovers and the Gulls now face a race against time to get the right man at the helm.

"We've had a significant number of applications, and some are very interesting," Phillips told the Western Morning News.

"We have got a number of applicants who we will look at on their merits, but our objective is to appoint the best manager for Torquay United.

"We have such a short close season as the players will be back on July 1, so we have got to act fairly quickly."


 

Former Brentford striker Nicky Forster is the only person to have publicly admitted his interest in the job, while former captain Chris Hargreaves and Paul Trollope have been linked.
