Valiant midfielder earns Montserrat call

Port Vale midfielder Anthony Griffith has been called up to represent Montserrat for the first time.

Griffith will link up with the national team ahead of the Caribbean island's Preliminary World Cup Qualifiers.

The midfielder qualifies to play for Montserrat through his late father who was born on the island.

Griffith told Vale's official website: "It's a fantastic opportunity to play international football at any level and I'm delighted to have been called up.


"My dad died when I was a young boy, so it's also an opportunity for me to learn about the history and heritage of where he came from and link up with family members.

"I'm really looking forward to the challenge of international football."
