Arsenal have announced the signing of highly-rated Charlton Athletic defender Carl Jenkinson on their official website.
The 19-year-old Finland U-19 captain makes the long anticipated transfer across London following his breakthrough season with the Addicks.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger identified Jenkinson as a player with great potential some time ago, and the two clubs had been locked in negotiations for some time as they sought to agree a deal to bring him to the Emirates Stadium.
At 6ft 1in, Jenkinson played predominantly as a right-back during his nine first-team appearances at the Valley this season but can also operate as a central defender.
He will provide added competition for places in the Arsenal first-team squad in the years to come, and in the short term will continue to be nurtured by Wenger's North London network of coaches with the rest of the Gunners' up-and-coming stars of the future.
The Jenkinson deal has been finalised on the same day that Arsenal youngsters Benik Afobe, Chuks Aneke, and Oguzhan Ozyakup also pledged their long-term future’s to the club by signing new deals.
