Sheffield United have confirmed the appointment of Frank Barlow as assistant manager.

Barlow, 64, a former Blades player, teams back up with manager Danny Wilson, who replaced Micky Adams at Bramall Lane at the end of last month.

Barlow said: "I suppose I've come full circle. There were two real pulls to take this job."

He added: "The first is to work with Danny Wilson again.

"He's a top quality manager and a trustworthy man and the other is the opportunity to return to my first club."

Barlow signed for the Blades as a 14-year-old and went on to make over 140 appearances before leaving in 1972.

He also played for Chesterfield while his wide and varied coaching roles have included spells with Birmingham, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield Wednesday, Bristol City, Hull and Wigan.
