Atletico Madrid and Uruguay international defender Diego Godin has emerged as a summer transfer target for Chelsea according to skysports.com.
The 25-year-old South American starlet was the subject of a Blues bid in the January transfer window.
But after an approach was knocked back by the La Liga outfit, Chelsea stepped up their pursuit of David Luiz who moved to Stamford Bridge in a deal worth over £21million.
"In January, Atletico received an offer but the transfer did not happen," Godin confirmed.
"They had already sold other players and did not want to weaken the team further then.
"For Chelsea to still be interested in having me is an honour and means I must be playing well."
As Blues owner Roman Abramovich steps up his search for a new manager, he is also set on overhauling Chelsea's playing squad and as such is continuing to make waves in the transfer market.
Asked if he would still consider a summer switch to Stamford Bridge, Godin enthused, "Who would not want to play there? To do so would be a step up."
