Manchester United target Raphael Varane is considering his future amidst increased speculation linking him with a move away from Lens reports skysports.com.
The 18-year-old defender is widely regarded as one of the hottest prospects coming out of France following his breakthrough campaign in Ligue 1 this season.
Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been keeping tabs on Varane's progress and was said to be planning an approach to bring him to Old Trafford this summer.
With the recent capture of England U21 international Phil Jones, Manchester United have wasted no time in moving to strengthen their defensive line, with the club’s long term future very much at the forefront of Ferguson's mind.
Varane, who penned a new contract with Lens midway through the season, was considered to be another of United's summer targets with a view to having a long and prosperous Reds career.
However, the promising Frenchman, who in addition to Manchester United has commanded interest from Bayern Munich, recently revealed he will only consider a move to a club that will benefit his personal development.
"I am under contract at Lens until 2015. We are in talks with the chairman to find the best solution," Varane told FranceFootball.
"We talked about a departure and it seems there is no hostility from the club, even if I remain under contract.
"Interest from Bayern or Manchester United? It is greatly flattering to hear those names, and I even ask myself if that is really about me.
"But I can't dream. I have to think about it and join a club that will allow me to improve.
"Remaining in Ligue 1 seems to be the more sensible choice. The most important thing to me is time spent on the pitch."
