Tom Cleverley believes he can fill the void left by Paul Scholes at Old Trafford.

The Manchester United midfielder announced his retirement at the end of the season, adding a final Barclays Premier League title to his trophy collection before calling time on a glittering career with the Red Devils.

Cleverley, who has enjoyed successful loan spells away from the Red Devils and was noticably impressive at Wigan last season, is confident he could do a job for Sir Alex Ferguson's side despite a handful of internationals being linked with summer move.

"Paul Scholes' boots are very big ones to fill, he's been a winner and a great player. Any team is going to miss a player of that ability," said the 21-year-old.

"But as always somebody has to step up."

Samir Nasri, Wesley Sneijder and Luka Modric are just three players thought to be on the Manchester United radar, but Cleverley believes he could save the club some cash by stepping up.

"I hope I can put my case forward and save the club some money. Wigan have helped me and I feel I am ready to tackle the job at United."
