Liverpool playmaker target has 'top four' credentials

Liverpool target Charlie Adam has proved he has all the credentials to play for one of the 'big four' clubs in the Barclays Premier League, says Jimmy Armfield.

Speaking to the Blackpool Gazette the Bloomfield Road legend believes speculation linking Adam with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur is fully justified.

"I think he's good enough to play for the top four," he said. "I think he's proved that he can play in the top level.

"It's difficult to say how he'd do at somewhere like Manchester United or Liverpool, as he didn't pull up any trees at Rangers, but I think he's good enough," he continued.

Liverpool failed with an £6million to bring Adam to Anfield in the January transfer window, and are fully expected to renew their interest again this summer, even after the recent capture of England U21 international Jordan Henderson who joins the Reds from Sunderland for £15million.

"Charlie will have aspirations of playing in the Premier League after doing so well there last season.

"Now Blackpool are in the Championship, I can't blame him for wanting to play in the top flight," admitted Armfield.

Kenny Dalglish is expected to make his move for the 25-year-old playmaker soon, and despite the midfielder only having 12 months left on his contract, Blackpool will hold-out for at least £8m from Liverpool for their most prized asset.
