Ipswich manager Paul Jewell has confirmed Iceland international Ivar Ingimarsson will join the club next month.

The 33-year-old central defender, out of contract at Reading, is expected to arrive in time for pre-season training and will sign a one-year contract.

Jewell told the club's official website: "I had a chat with Ivar while we were both in Spain and it's all sorted out, he'll be with us for the first day of pre-season."

He added: "He's an experienced player who knows what the Championship is all about. When I look back at my time at Bradford and Wigan, I had players there like Jason De Vos, Arjan De Zeeuw, Matt Jackson.

"They were older heads, not the quickest players maybe, but an integral part of the team. Ivar knows what this league is all about. He knows what it takes to be successful and I'm delighted that he'll be with us next season."

Ingimarsson, who has 30 international caps, made nearly 300 appearances for Reading during an eight-year spell. He is Jewell's second summer signing following the arrival of striker Michael Chopra from Cardiff last week.
