Barnsley striker Liam Dickinson has left the club by mutual consent.

The 25-year-old signed a two-year contract when joining Barnsley for an undisclosed fee last summer from Brighton, but struggled to break into then manager Mark Robins' starting line-up.

He joined Walsall on loan the following November and then spent the rest of the season on loan at Rochdale under new Tykes boss Keith Hill.

Dickinson made his name at Stockport and after helping them to promotion from npower League Two in 2008 joined Derby, who paid £750,000 for the 6ft 3in striker.

He had loan spells at Huddersfield, Blackpool and Leeds during the following season before signing for Brighton for an undisclosed fee.
