Newcastle have confirmed that Kevin Nolan is currently undergoing a medical test at West Ham, and the two clubs have agreed to a fee for the skipper to make the move down south.
It was clear that contract talks were stalling with Nolan at Newcastle over the last few weeks, with the length of the deal on offer said to be an issue for the 28-year-old.
But now Nolan looks set to be exiting the Northern club for recently relegated West Ham, who will be working to get straight back into the Barclays Premier League next season.
Nolan was Newcastle’s top scorer this season with 12 goals, just edging out fellow ex-Toon man Andy Carroll who scored 11 goals up until his move in January.
Teammate Joey Barton reacted to the news of Nolan's exit with anger, warning the Newcastle board that other big names are now set to leave the club.
"Great player, leader, captain, person, trainer and mostly a friend for life. Devastated to see him SOLD! #mejoseandjonasnext,” Barton wrote on his twitter account.
Nolan is the latest episode in what appears to be a big shake up at Newcastle this summer, with Pardew looking to set up a squad capable of competing in Europe in the next two years.
