Drogba set to stay at Chelsea

Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay insists Didier Drogba will not be leaving Stamford Bridge in the summer, advising fans to ignore transfer rumours surrounding the star striker.

'Didier is very much a mainstay of the Chelsea team so yes, Didier will be here with us in a few weeks' time,' Gourlay said.

Drogba looked set to leave Chelsea after the £50 million purchase of Liverpool striker Fernando Torres in January, which displaced the African star from the starting line up.

But while Drogba has been relatively quiet over transfer talk during the last couple of weeks, Gourlay insists the 33-year-old will most certainly be with the Blues for the long haul.

Drogba had a difficult season with Chelsea over the past year, with illness and Torres causing selection problems for the striker. But he still managed to score 13 goals and clock up 46 appearances for the Stamford Bridge outfit.

Fans will no doubt be pleased with the news that Drogba is staying, particularly with his brilliant performances for Chelsea the season before last where they won the English league and cup double.
